All of our safety glasses comply with standards set by ANSI (American National Standard Institute). Safety glasses fulfilling this standard will bear the marking Z87, Z87+ or Z87-2.
Z87- Basic Impact indication
To determine the basic impact properties of a material, a steel ball is dropped from a relatively high position onto the object. Safety lenses must not break, crack or chip to pass the test and Safety frames must be able to hold the safety lenses in place without any detachment or displacement of the lenses. Lenses must not be thinner than 2mm thick in diameter.
Z87+ - High Impact indication / Ballistic
To qualify, Lenses and Frames are tested together as a whole. During the test, steel projectiles will be shot at them at a speed of about 45m per second, directed at different angles and positions. Safety lenses must not break, crack or chip to pass the test and Safety frames must be able to hold the safety lenses in place without any detachment or displacement of the lenses. Lenses must not be thinner than 3mm thick in diameter.
Z87-2 - Prescription Safety Frames.
Side shields are available to provide a bigger coverage of protection. Side Shields will have to pass the high velocity impact test and will also bear the marking Z87.

If your work area requires you to saw, hammer, cut or do anything that will result in air borne particles, most probably you will be required to have a pair of safety glasses to protect your sight. Accidents do happens, even when you are having a game of tennis. High velocity projectiles such as tennis ball, can travel at a speed of more than 100km/hr and injuries caused has been known to result in blindness. Safety glasses has some standards to follow and can be made available with prescription. Favourite choice of material for lenses would be polycarbonate. Frames nowadays can be made from alot of materials and can be generally found as:
Monel (nickel based): It is the most commonly used material for budget frames. Can be a mixture of metals. It is considered to be one of the heaviest materials used for metal frames. Easy for adjustment and ideal for economical purchases. Might cause some allergic reaction if plating on frame comes off.
Stainless Steel: This material is nickel free thus minimizing the chances of allergic reactions. They are strong in nature and is corrosion resistant. Most coloured stainless steel is able to hold their colours well. Good material that comes at a reasonable pricing.
Titanium: Getting more and more popular among consumers looking for quality products. 100% corrosion resistant, titanium frames are well known for their light weight and is hypo-allergnic (Does not cause any unwanted skin reaction). A well made titanium frame when taken care of, can serve you well.
Aluminium: Soft and weak on its own, it is usually mixed as an alloy with other material. Light weight in nature as well, these corrosion resistant material can be a good alternative to titanium frames.
Zyl (Cellulose Acetate): This is the most commonly used material for plastic frames. An easy on the pocket material that comes in a huge variety of colours. This type of plastic will lose its shape if put under heat and will with age, becomes a little more brittle.
Optyl: A very good lightweight plastic with a memory effect. Works great with colours and paired with flexibility for comfort wearing. Stronger material than cellulose acetate.

Coloured lenses other than being aesthetically nice, can be used to enhance our vision as well. Here are some brief introductions to the most commonly used colors.
Gray: The most popular colour for sunglasses. Great for general purpose usage. Reduction of glares while maintaining our ability for colour perception. to the eyes when used under bright conditions.
Amber/ Brown Color: Improves contrast with better depth perception. These warms colours are also able to block away blue light which is believed to be harmful.
Yellow: This is the colour most ideal for filtering out blue light while maintaining a high level of contrast. A favourite for night driving.

There are a lot of lenses on the market right now that can provide 100 percent UV protection, coming in the form of prescription lenses as well. They come in a lot of forms and can be generally categorized into:
Blue-Blockers: As the name suggests, these lenses helps eye protection by blocking blue light.
Blue light, also known as high-energy wavelength of light, from many primate studies, has been widely believed to be one of the main factors for causing macular degeneration, a deterioration of the back of the eye which will affect our sense of sight greatly. They are present everywhere, from the clear blue sky, to the fluorescent lamp in your room to anything that looks blue. Blue light falls within the range after ultraviolet lights, therefore are not protected from with the use of a normal UV sunglasses.
The color known to block blue light is yellow thus blue-blockers lenses will have a certain yellow tint in them. They can come in the form of different shades of yellow to amber and to plum. The lenses in our human eye with age turns yellow gradually, providing a certain filter in the eye from blue light. However, this natural form of protection are less prominent in the clear eyes of young childrens and in those who have it removed after a cataract extraction.
Thus the desirable benefits of Blue-blockers should be widely recommended for people of all ages who wants to go beyond the protection of a normal UV sunglasses.
Gradient Lenses: Gradient Lenses are also known as 2 tone lenses. They can be tinted into any colors and thus are one of the most popular choices among young people. Most common is the darkest at the top and lighter tone at the bottom.
Polarized Lenses: These lenses works great for people who wants to protect their eyes from disturbing glares, which sometimes can be dangerous especially if you are on the road. Overwhelming glare can cause alot of discomforts, causing involuntary squinting of the eyes and preventing you from enjoying the things you love to do.
In simple terms, Polarized lenses work through rearrangement of the light passing through so that only comfortable normal light passes through while the annoying glare produced is mostly blocked off. They come in a variety of colors which serves different purposes, most commonly found in gray color. Be it on a hot sunny day when driving on the road or fishing at your favourite spot, a pair of polarized lenses can bring you that additional comfort and protection through their efficiency at glare removal.
Photochromatic Lenses: Does not like the hassle of changing from your glasses to a sunglasses outdoor, or having trouble finding the right type of clip-on for your glasses? Then photochromic lenses might be the choice for you.
Material of photochromic lenses changes color, usually in the form of grey or brown color under stimulation by Ultraviolet rays, thus providing 100 percent UV protection, with the welcomed benefit of glare reduction. Transparency of the lenses will be regained gradually indoor, without the presence of Ultraviolet rays.
